Your Relationship is Worth the Investment

Some things in life you just can't afford not to prioritize. Your relationship is one of them.

At Simply Redefining Wellness & Counseling, we work with couples who are serious about their partnership—people who aren't willing to let distance, conflict, or unspoken pain quietly erode something they've built together. Whether you're preparing for marriage, navigating a difficult season, or working to rebuild after a rupture, our therapists bring clinical expertise, cultural sensitivity, and genuine investment to every session.

This is intentional, focused relationship work. And it works—when both partners show up ready.

A Note About Insurance & Couples Therapy

Before you begin, here's something important to understand — and something most practices don't say clearly enough:

Most insurance plans do not cover traditional couples counseling.

Insurance companies require a diagnosed mental health condition and medical necessity to authorize treatment. Relationship issues—communication problems, conflict patterns, growing apart, premarital preparation—do not meet that clinical threshold. When insurance does pay, it is typically because one partner carries a qualifying diagnosis and treatment is structured around that individual's care, not the relationship itself.

What this means for you: couples therapy is most often a self-pay service—and that's actually a good thing.

When you pay out of pocket, your sessions are not tied to a diagnosis, a claim, or an insurer's definition of what your relationship needs. Your therapist has complete clinical freedom to design treatment around your goals as a couple. No documentation constraints. No arbitrary session limits. No outside party deciding when your relationship has been "treated enough."

This is your relationship. You deserve to be in control of how it's cared for.

We accept self-pay for all couples services. A superbill can be provided upon request if you wish to pursue potential out-of-network reimbursement.

What You'll Actually Get From Couples Counseling Here

Couples who work with our therapists don't just learn scripts and communication formulas. They develop a fundamentally different understanding of each other — and build a relationship culture that can actually hold the weight of real life.

In your sessions, you will:

Break out of the same argument you've been having for years — and understand what it's actually about

Learn to communicate your needs in ways your partner can hear—without shutting down or escalating

Rebuild trust and emotional safety after conflict, betrayal, or years of disconnection

Restore friendship, intimacy, and the sense that you're genuinely for each other

Align on the things that matter most—parenting, finances, faith, roles, the future

Restore friendship, intimacy, and the sense that you're genuinely for each other

Develop tools you'll use for the rest of your relationship—not just while you're in therapy

Our Approach

Our couples therapists are trained in the most research-supported relationship modalities available:

The Gottman Method

Decades of research translated into practical tools for friendship, conflict repair, and shared meaning

Who We Work With

We work with couples at every stage — and in every season:

  • Engaged couples preparing to build a marriage on solid ground

  • Newlyweds adjusting to the realities of shared life

  • Established couples who've drifted and want to find their way back

  • Couples in crisis navigating betrayal, affairs, or significant ruptures

  • Couples facing transition — new baby, blended family, loss, career change, empty nest

  • High-achieving couples who've poured everything into work and family and have little left for each other

If both of you are willing to do the work, we're ready to help.

Getting Married?

We Have a Program for That.

If you're engaged and preparing for marriage, our Premarital Alignment Intensive is designed specifically for you — an 8-week structured program working directly with Carlene Charlemagne, LAMFT.

This Is Your Move

Relationships don't fix themselves. And the longer disconnection goes unaddressed, the harder the repair. The couples who come to us and do the work almost universally say the same thing afterward: we wish we had done this sooner.

You already know something needs to change.

The question is whether you're going to invest in it.

Frequently Asked Questions

1 / Does insurance cover couples therapy?

Most insurance plans don't cover traditional couples counseling. Coverage typically requires a diagnosed mental health condition, which relationship concerns don't meet on their own. Couples therapy at SRWC is self-pay. We can provide a superbill upon request for potential out-of-network reimbursement, though it's not guaranteed.

2 / How many sessions will we need?

It varies by couple and goals. Some couples work through a specific issue in 8–12 sessions; others benefit from longer-term support. Your therapist will check in regularly on progress and adjust accordingly.

3 / Do both partners have to come to every session?

For couples counseling, yes — both partners attend together. Occasionally your therapist may recommend an individual session for one or both partners as part of the process, but the primary format is joint sessions.

4 / Do you offer telehealth for couples?

Yes. Virtual couples sessions are available across New Jersey and New York. In-person sessions are available at our New Jersey office.

5 / We're not in crisis — is couples therapy still worth it?

Absolutely. Some of the most productive couples work happens before things break down. Therapy helps you build communication skills, strengthen your foundation, and get ahead of the patterns that cause problems later. You don't have to be struggling to benefit.
